Political Scenario in India: Points to Ponder Upon
The very concept of Democracy is the freedom to choose and decide for oneself. But the concept just stays in the books and is never realized in its full potential because one has the right to choose from alternatives but one doesn’t have the right to choose the alternatives.
Doesn’t it feel like one has been deceived because the freedom to choose is just for the namesake? The ultimate choice of options doesn’t lie with the one for whom the decision is being taken or the one who will be the most affected. Will someone else decide for your future?
The same happens with the electoral process in India. Every citizen has the right to vote, but can they choose the candidate from a political party to contest, who they wish to vote for, if he/she is given a chance to be nominated? No, the power lies only with the party. Thus digging deep, we find that the very preachers of democracy, i.e. most of the Political Parties are not quite democratic themselves.
