Selection Before Elections

Amongst the very fundamental concepts of Democracy is the freedom to choose and form a government. This very idea was responsible for replacing earlier monarchy and colonial rule models.

India is among the countries which adopted this form of political system after the end of colonial rule. But slowly and gradually the political system of India has turn hypocritical from democratic.

The voters feel that there is no candidate they actually want to vote for. Sometimes, people vote for one candidate just to vote against the other candidate, which is like choosing the better from the worst.

If one gives a deep thought to it, it is because the political parties themselves do not follow a proper and justifiable process to select the member who would represent their party as its prime candidate for the election.

Like every other group of people, a political party too is comprised of people of all shapes and sizes. Not all members of a party are corrupt or unjust, a few are dedicated and honest too. Those few people are popular amongst their peers but do not necessarily get to serve in the top leadership or given tickets to fight elections. It is because the political parties themselves do suffer from internal politics.

How can a party promise of bringing unequal opportunities for all after coming to power and form an accountable and robust system if its internal system is so hazy and nepotist?

Thus the candidates, representing their respective political parties, have themselves not been selected democratically, they seldom have any regards or commitment to form an accountable government if elected, leave aside having a vision for some impactful development.

Thus the common voter is left deficient of proper choices and alternatives before him/her. We at Jan Jagrati Manch feel that there should be a proper selection procedure within every party for choosing the representative candidate; where the commoners suggest their favourites, the ones they want to see standing for the elections as the candidate representing their respective parties.

Wouldn't that be a more voter-friendly approach to elections? Do give a thought Selection before elections.
